Miles Macdonell Collegiate Depave Initiative

Category:Green Infrastructure
City: Winnipeg
Year: 2022 - Ongoing

In 2022, Climate Change Connection led a depave project at Miles Macdonell Collegiate, a school located east of Winnipeg’s Red River in a mixed residential neighbourhood. We removed 62 square metres of asphalt and planted 50 native plants and shrubs to green the space and improve stormwater management. The project sparked a conversation in the school about expanding greening initiatives. As a result, the school transformed an unused adjacent green space into a butterfly garden, an outdoor learning area, and a welcoming spot for students to gather.
