Year: 2016 - Ongoing

Brooklands School in Winnipeg, Manitoba, transformed part of its asphalt-covered schoolyard into a vibrant green space. Partnering with Urban Eatin’ Landscapes and the Manitoba Eco-Network, the school launched a Depave Paradise project in May 2016 that saw volunteers remove 150 square metres of asphalt, build 15 raised garden beds, and plant over 286 native plants and one tree. This green space not only serves as both a community garden and an open-air classroom for students, but also helps reduce stormwater runoff.

See the transformation in action.
