R.A. Riddell Public School Depave Project

Two children and two adults work together, digging holes and planting greenery on a recently depaved asphalt playground. Potted plants surround them, with a school field in the background.

Category:Green Infrastructure
City: Hamilton
Year: 2016 - Ongoing

In 2016, Green Venture led a Depave project at R.A. Riddell Public School, removing almost 60 square metres of asphalt from an unused area of the school’s playground. They transformed the space into an outdoor classroom and rain garden with evergreens, broadleaf evergreens, trees, shrubs, perennials and grasses planted around a permeable gravelly surface in the shape of a maple leaf.
