Who We Are

Our members are organizations that deliver a wide range of environmental programs and services. They are incorporated non-profits or Indigenous governments/organizations that lead on-the-ground change in their communities.

GCC has two types of network members:

Full network members: Full network members may benefit from all GCC network meetings, shared resources, services, and programs.

Associate network members: Associate network members may benefit from GCC’s network meetings and resources, but do not participate in GCC’s programs and services.

OUR MEMBERS SHARE EIGHT CORE PRINCIPLES THAT GROUND OUR COLLECTIVE WORK AND APPROACH

1. We recognize the urgent need for bold climate action

   Greenhouse gas emissions must be significantly reduced and communities must be supported to adapt.

2. We commit to an inclusive and justice-focused approach.

   The needs and voices of vulnerable and marginalized communities must be prioritized to address inequities.

3. We honour Indigenous rights, jurisdiction, and perspectives.

   Reconciliation is an ongoing commitment made through restorative actions, words, and relations.

4. We embrace the leadership of local actors and organizations.

   Communities are on the frontlines of climate change and locally led responses are the most dynamic and durable.

5. We work collaboratively to strengthen and mobilize our sector.

   The climate crisis requires collective action and a sustained investment in mutual-support systems.

6. We are guided by scientific data, and by local and traditional knowledge.

   Sound and inclusive decision-making considers scientific evidence and diverse lived experiences.

7. We measure and transparently report on our impact.

   Consistent and accountable communication creates opportunities for shared understanding, growth, and reflection.

8. We respect each other’s areas of service and programming.

   Coordinated and mutually supportive approaches deepen our impact, as organizations and as a network.

We are a Network That Advances Local Climate Action  

The scale and complexity of the climate crisis requires that we work together. Community-based action is vital, but local organizations are stronger when they can share resources, knowledge, and a sense of purpose.  

Become A Member 

Green Communities Canada membership offers tangible long-term benefits at a cost designed to be accessible for our non-profit members. We’re focused on sustainable membership growth across the country and encourage you to reach out if you’re interested in learning more.    

The cost to become a full network member is $500/year. The cost to become an associate network member is $200/year. 

Prospective members should review our Membership Policy and complete our Membership Application. These applications are reviewed by our Board of Directors on an ongoing basis, and you can expect to hear back about approval within a two-month period. 

Member Eligibility Requirements: 

• non-profit corporation or Indigenous government/organization 

• deliver community-based environmental programs 

• serve a defined geographic territory in Canada (e.g., municipality, county, region) 

• have your own governance structure
